Zcash (ZEC) Rallies To $500 β The Privacy Protocol Just Got A Catalyst Worth Paying Attention To
Zcash (ZEC) has gained roughly 20% over the past month, pushing the largest privacy coin by market cap close to the $500 mark. Bitcoin’s (BTC) recovery above $63,000 has lifted the broader market, but for Zcash something more specific is driving the move β a major technical development within the protocol itself.Β
Zcash Community Plans New Shielded Pool
Last month, Shielded Labs security researcher Taylor Hornby discovered a counterfeiting vulnerability in Orchard, Zcash’s flagship shielded pool.Β
The flaw was patched through a network upgrade, and the development team said it believes no exploitation occurred. But there is a problem that makes the situation more complicated than a simple patch.Β
Because exploitation of the vulnerability is inherently undetectable, the team cannot fully rule out that someone found and used it before the fix arrived. That limitation prompted a broader response.Β
Zcash’s community announced plans to launch an entirely new shielded pool called Ironwood β built on the same Orchard foundation but starting fresh with the vulnerability already addressed.Β
A mechanism called a turnstile will allow wallets to migrate funds from Orchard to Ironwood, and in doing so, demonstrate that no counterfeiting took place during the window when the flaw existed.Β
For Ironwood, the Zcash development team is applying formal verification β a βrigorous mathematical processβ that proves code behaves exactly as intended, eliminating entire categories of bugs rather than just fixing individual ones.Β The team described the effort as a response to the possibility of βnot being lucky enoughβ to catch the next vulnerability before it causes damage.Β
Diverging Views On ZECβs Next Move
ZEC is currently changing hands at $490. Over 30% of the coin’s total supply is now held in shielded form β a figure that reflects genuine adoption of Zcash’s privacy features rather than just speculative trading.
Still, analysts are split on what comes next. Anton Kharitonov of Traders Union flagged signs of exhaustion in the recent rally β overbought signals, thinning retail futures participation, weakening MACD momentum, and a low ADX reading that suggests the current trend lacks conviction.Β
He identified $489.48 as the key support level and warned that strong gains and the privacy upgrade narrative may already be fully priced in. “Traders should remain defensive until Zcash proves it can defend support amid fading retail interest and elevated intraday risks,” he said.
Viktoras Karapetjanc of the same firm took the opposite view. He pointed to the Ironwood upgrade and growing network adoption as foundations for sustained demand rather than short-term speculation.Β
With the bullish technical structure still intact and fundamentals reinforced by the shielded supply figures, he sees current prices as offering multiple entry points for buyers willing to look past near-term volatility.Β “Further growth is expected as confidence builds around privacy features and the market aligns with evolving network narratives,” he said.
