CLARITY Act Has A New Law Enforcement Ally — And The Timing Could Not Be Better

The CLARITY Act picked up another law enforcement endorsement Monday, with the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) sending a letter to the Senate Banking Committee expressing support for the crypto market structure bill. 

The development brings the total number of law enforcement organizations publicly backing the legislation to three — a meaningful shift in a debate where law enforcement opposition had been one of the bill’s most persistent obstacles.

Support With Strings 

In its letter to the Senate Banking Committee, FLEOA said the current version of the bill represents meaningful progress toward balancing technological innovation with public safety — but stopped short of a clean endorsement, attaching several specific recommendations alongside its support.

They called for several refinements. Among them, clearer accountability rules within decentralized finance (DeFi), stronger language to prevent “artificial decentralization” from being used to dodge regulation, and explicit confirmation that nothing in the bill limits authorities’ ability to comply with court orders. FLEOA National President Mathew Silverman stated:

FLEOA remains committed to supporting policies that allow the United States to lead in blockchain and digital asset innovation while ensuring federal law enforcement retains the authorities necessary to investigate and prosecute sophisticated financial crimes.

CLARITY Act Enters The Home Stretch 

FLEOA is the third law enforcement organization to move toward the CLARITY Act this month. As CryptoDepth reported, NOBLE formally endorsed the bill earlier this month — the first major law enforcement body to do so. 

The Major County Sheriffs of America separately shifted from opposition to neutral following discussions around Section 604, the provision that shields non-custodial software developers from being classified as money transmitters.

Monday also brought a push from the White House. President Trump posted on Truth Social calling on the Senate to pass the CLARITY Act in honor of Senator Lindsey Graham, who passed away over the weekend and had been a vocal supporter of the legislation. 

Coupled with these positive developments surrounding the bill, Congress returned from recess today, reopening the roughly four-week window that analysts have identified as the last realistic shot at passage before the August recess closes the door.
