Ethereum (ETH) Just Triggered a Major Bullish Signal β Top Analyst Says $3,000 Is Next
For most of August, Ethereum (ETH) has been consolidating between $1,850 and $1,920. However, beneath the surface, a set of technical and on-chain signals is emerging that, according to market analyst Ali Martinez, could propel the second-largest cryptocurrency back toward the $3,000 mark β a threshold it has not reached since the beginning of the year.
Here Is What the Data Says Comes NextΒ
Martinez flagged the development on X, pointing to Ethereum’s market-value-to-realized-value (MVRV) 0.8 Pricing Band β a metric that compares the current market value of ETH to the average price at which all coins last moved on-chain. When Ethereum’s price breaks above the 0.8 level of that band, historically it has signaled a meaningful shift in momentum.

Martinez said Ethereum recently cleared that threshold at $1,800, and that each time it has done so, the token has subsequently advanced toward its Realized Price β the average cost basis of all ETH in circulation, which currently sits near $2,300.
Beyond the MVRV band break, Martinez identified a second signal β an MVRV Momentum golden cross, which occurs when a short-term momentum reading crosses above a longer-term one within the same indicator.Β
Martinez tracked the previous instances of this signal and found rallies of 50%, 166%, 74%, and 113% followed each occurrence. If the current pattern holds, $3,000 becomes the next key level β a target supported by on-chain transaction data showing more than 10 million ETH previously changed hands around that price, making it a significant resistance zone with meaningful historical gravity.
MichaΓ«l van de Poppe offered a complementary read. He said that as long as Ethereum holds above $1,800, the current price action looks like a bullish consolidation before a continuation higher rather than a breakdown in progress.Β
He noted that higher timeframe bullish divergences β situations where price makes lower lows while momentum indicators make higher lows β are forming, which he said gives him more confidence in an upside resolution than a downside one. Losing $1,800, he added, would be a serious warning and would put the year’s lows back in play.
Ethereum Is Outperforming Bitcoin This QuarterΒ
The fundamental picture is adding context for the altcoinβs bullish outlook. Analyst Lucky on X pointed to several structural developments that have been building quietly while price has chopped sideways.Β
Over 41.4 million ETH is now locked in staking contracts β approximately 34% of the circulating supply removed from liquid markets. Less ETH available for sale reduces the selling pressure available to push prices lower.Β
Separately, the ETH/BTC ratio has climbed more than 10% this quarter, meaning Ethereum has been outperforming Bitcoin on a relative basis even as both assets have faced headwinds.
On the fundamentals side, Ethereum continues to hold 53.1% of total value locked across all decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols β maintaining its dominant position in smart contract capital β and accounts for approximately 49% to 52% of the total stablecoin market capitalization.Β
Both figures reflect the degree to which institutional and developer activity remains concentrated on the Ethereum network despite competition from faster and cheaper alternatives.
Lucky also noted the broader regulatory environment is improving. The CLARITY Act, if passed before the Senate’s August 7 recess deadline, would provide the first comprehensive federal framework for digital assets in US history β a development that analysts across the board have described as a significant positive catalyst for Ethereum specifically given its role in DeFi and stablecoin infrastructure.
ETH was trading at $1,913 at the time of writing, up 2% over the past 24 hours according to CoinGecko data. That puts the token approximately 61% below its all-time high of $4,946.
